In August and September 2024, the number of executions in Iran has drastically increased: approximately 90 executions were carried out in August, many of which were conducted without a fair trial and based on confessions obtained under torture. Among them was the execution of Reza Rasai, one of the detainees of the 2022 uprising. According to reports, the number of reported executions in Iran this year (as of summer 2024) has exceeded 400, of which 15 were women. Cartoon by Shahrokh Heidari.
